Απόκτησα το 1997 το πτυχίο Οπτικής από το Τµήµα Οπτικής της Σχολής Επαγγελµάτων Υγείας του ΑΤΕΙ Αθηνών, το 2002 το πτυχίο Ιατρικής και το 2009 πτυχίο Οδοντιατρικής από το ΑΠΘ. Το 2008 έλαβα το δίπλωµα ειδίκευσης από το ΠΜΣ “Ιατρική Ερευνητική Μεθοδολογία” του Τµήµατος Ιατρικής, ΑΠΘ. Από το 2005 έως και το 2011 ασκήθηκα ως ιατρός στα Γ.Ν. Καβάλας, ΑΝΘ Θεαγένειο, ΓΝ Παπανικολάου και ΓΝ ΑΧΕΠΑ προκειμένου να λάβω την ιατρική και οδοντιατρική ειδικότητα της Στοματικής & Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής. Επίσης είμαι εξειδικευμένος στην Επείγουσα Προνοσοκομειακή Ιατρική από το Εκπαιδευτικό Κέντρο του Ε.Κ.Α.Β (2011).

Υπηρέτησα τη στρατιωτική θητεία του στο Κέντρο Εκπαίδευσης Ανορθοδόξου Πολέμου (Κ.Ε.Α.Π.) των Ειδικών Δυνάμεων του Στρατού Ξηράς ως έφεδρος οπλίτης ιατρός άνευ ειδικότητας (26/5/2003 – 26/5/2004 ). Κατά τα έτη 2012-2013 εκπλήρωσα την προβλεπόμενη από το νόμο υπηρεσία υπαίθρου στο ΓΝ Γουμένισσας.

Εκπόνησα διδακτορική διατριβή (2008-2013) στο Τµήµα Ιατρικής του ΑΠΘ, µε θέµα “Αξιολόγηση της ποιότητας ζωής ασθενών µε καρκίνο κεφαλής και τραχήλου και ασθενών µε οστεονέκρωση της γνάθου από διφωσφονικά” (Άριστα με Διάκριση).

Το 2014 έλαβα κατόπιν εξωτερικής κρίσης από την Επιτροπή Ερευνών του Α.Π.Θ. Μεταδιδακτορική Υποτροφία Αριστείας κατά την οποία εκπόνησα Μεταδιδακτορική Έρευνα με θέμα «Μελέτη της άμεσης και απώτερης νοσηρότητας από κρανιοπροσωπικό τραύμα στον πληθυσμό της Β. Ελλάδας στο Εργαστήριο και στην Κλινική Στοματικής & Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. Στη συνέχεια, τα έτη 2015-2016 έλαβα κατόπιν εξωτερικής κρίσης από το Ίδρυμα Κρατικών Υποτροφιών (ΙΚΥ) στα πλαίσια του εξωδικαστικού συμβιβασμού του Ελληνικού Δημοσίου με τη Siemens, Μεταδιδακτορική Υποτροφία Αριστείας κατά την οποία εκπόνησα Μεταδιδακτορική Έρευνα με θέμα : «Κλινική μελέτη των μεταβολών στα ανοσιακά κύτταρα σε ασθενείς με θεραπεία υπό διφωσφονικά» στο Β’ Εργαστήριο Φαρμακολογίας – Κλινικής Φαρμακολογίας της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ.. Από το 2013 μέχρι κα το 2018 ήμουν υπότροφος κλινικής έρευνας στο Ιταλικό Πανεπιστημιακό Νοσοκομείο Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova IRCCS Reggio Emilia όπου έχω συμμετάσχει σε πρωτοκόλλα κλινικών μελετών και μελετών διαγνωστικής ακρίβειας και συγγραφή συστηματικών ανασκοπήσεων και μετα-αναλύσεων που αφορούν στο δερματικό καρκίνο του προσώπου και σε δερματικά νοσήματα του στόματογναθικού γενικότερα.

Εργάζομαι ως Άµισθος Επιστηµονικός Συνεργάτης (2013-σήµερα): στην Α΄ ΩΡΛ Κλινική και το Β’ Εργαστήριο Φαρµακολογίας (Εργαστήριο Κλινικής Φαρµακολογίας) του Τµήµατος Ιατρικής, καθώς και στην Κλινική Στοµατικής Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής του Τµήµατος Οδοντιατρικής, ΑΠΘ. Κατά τα έτη 2017-2018, 2018-2019 και 2019-2020 ήμουν ακαδημαϊκός υπότροφος στο Β’ Εργαστήριο Φαρµακολογίας (Εργαστήριο Κλινικής Φαρµακολογίας) του Τµήµατος Ιατρικής του ΑΠΘ. Από το Σεπτέμβριο του 2020 μέχρι και σήμερα είμαι επιμελητής Ε.Σ.Υ. στο Γ.Ν.Θ. «Γ. Παπανικολάου».

Κλινικό έργο:
Αναφορικά με το κλινικό μου έργο, έχω αντιμετωπίσει πολύ μεγάλο αριθμό ασθενών στο αντικείμενο της Στοματικής Χειρουργικής, όπως προκύπτει από τα log book της ειδίκευσης μου στο ΓΝΘ «Γ. Παπανικολάου» και ΑΝΘ «Θεαγένειο» (2.217 επεμβάσεις), τις ιδιωτικές βεβαιώσεις για τα έτη 2017-2020 που είχα προσκομίσει στο συμβούλιο κρίσεων ιατρών ΕΣΥ της 3ης ΥΠΕ (>500 περιστατικά, >300 παραγγελίες CBCT) και την σχετική κατάσταση χειρουργείων ως Επιμελητής ΣΓΠΧ στο Γ.Ν.Θ. «Γ. Παπανικολάου» (246 περιστατικά).

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί η ιδιαίτερη εκπαίδευση και ενασχόληση μου για την αντιμετώπιση επειγόντων περιστατικών και τις πρώτες βοήθειες. Εξ’ όσο γνωρίζω είμαι ο μόνος ιατρός-οδοντίατρος στην Ελλάδα που έχω περατώσει επιτυχώς το μετεκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα του ΕΚΑΒ για την Επείγουσα Προνοσοκομειακή Ιατρική. Το πρόγραμμα παρέχεται μόνο σε απόφοιτους της Ιατρικής, περιλαμβάνει πρακτική άσκηση σε Αναισθησιολογικό Τμήμα, σε Μονάδα Εντατικής Θεραπείας, σε ΤΕΠ νοσοκομείου, σε Στεφανιαία Μονάδα, σε Αίθουσα Τοκετών, σε Μονάδα Εντατικής Νοσηλείας Νεογνών, σε Κινητές Μονάδες Επείγουσας Ιατρικής και στο Συντονιστικό Κέντρο του ΕΚΑΒ ενώ στα πλαίσια του είχα λάβει και το ALS το 2010. Το ενδιαφέρον μου για την επείγουσα ιατρική είναι παλαιότερο καθώς κατά τη στρατιωτική μου θητεία ως Οπλίτης – Ιατρός υπήρξα διδάσκων πρώτων βοηθειών στο Κέντρο Εκπαίδευσης Ανορθοδόξου Πολέμου (Κ.Ε.Α.Π.) των Ειδικών Δυνάμεων του Ελληνικού Στρατού κατά τα έτη 2003-2004. Επιπρόσθετα είμαι διδάσκων του μαθήματος Α’ Βοήθειες στο ΔΙΕΚ Νοσηλευτικής του ΓΝΘ «Γ. Παπανικολάου» (ΑΔΑ: ΨΖ4Θ46906Β-76Ζ).

Διοικητικό έργο:
Από το 2021 είμαι Διευθυντής Σύνταξης στα «Αρχεία Ελληνικής Στοματικής & Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής», το επίσημο τετραμηνιαίο επιστημονικό περιοδικό της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Στοματικής & Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής με Εθνική Αναγνώριση από το Υπουργείο Υγείας (ΦΕΚ 2412/Β/4-12- 2009). Είμαι Associate Editor στα περιοδικά: Hippokratia (από το 2012) και Dermatology Practical and Conceptual (από το 2016). Και στα 2 περιοδικά είμαι σύμβουλος καταλληλότητας μεθοδολογίας και στατιστικών δοκιμών. Επίσης είμαι μέλος της εκδοτικής επιτροπής σε άλλα 6 διεθνή περιοδικά. Έχω διεκπεραιώσει πάνω από 300 κρίσεις (peer review) σε πάνω από 75 διεθνή περιοδικά.

Είμαι Ειδικός Γραμματέας (υπεύθυνος για θέματα εκπαίδευσης και επιστημονικής τεκμηρίωσης) και μέλος του Δ.Σ. της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Στοματικής Γναθοπροσωπικής Χειρουργικής από το Φεβρουάριο του 2021.

Διδακτικό έργο:
Σε Προπτυχιακό επίπεδο, είμαι διδάσκων στο προπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. στα μαθήματα κορμού “Φαρμακολογία Ι”, “Φαρμακολογία ΙΙ” και “Ω.Ρ.Λ.” κατά τα έτη 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021. Είμαι διδάσκων και ατύπως συντονιστής μαθήματος στο προπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Οδόντιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. στο μάθημα επιλογής “Τεκμηριωμένη Συνταγογράφηση και Θεραπευτική στην Οδοντιατρική” κατά τα έτη 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 (με αυτοδύναμο διδακτικό έργο). Ήμουν διδάσκων στο προπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Οδόντιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. στα μαθήματα κορμού του 4ου και 5ου έτους “Στοματική Γναθοπροσωπική Χειρουργική Ι” και ” Στοματική Γναθοπροσωπική Χειρουργική ΙΙ” κατά τα έτη 2013-2014, 2014-2015.

Επίσης ήμουν διδάσκων στο “ΦΙΛΙΠΠΕΙΟ ΕΡΓΑΣΤΗΡΙΟ ΤΗΣ ΕΡΕΥΝΑΣ” της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γενικής Ιατρικής τα έτη 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 και 2014 καθώς και στο πρόγραμμα εκπαίδευσης των ειδικευόμενων ιατρών της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γενικής Ιατρικής “ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΟ ΒΙΟΣΤΑΤΙΣΤΙΚΗΣ ΕΠΙΔΗΜΙΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΜΕΘΟΔΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΡΕΥΝΑΣ” το έτος 2013. Ακόμη ήμουν διδάσκων στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Modena – Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) σε σεμινάρια ιατρικής ερευνητικής μεθοδολογίας τα έτη 2016 και 2017.

Επιπλέον ήμουν διδάσκων στο Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών «Κλινική και Bιομηχανική Φαρμακολογία» στο μάθημα «ΤΕΚΜΗΡΙΩΜΕΝΗ ΙΑΤΡΙΚΗ (EBM)».

Έχω εργαστεί για περισσότερα από τέσσερα χρόνια σε αναγνωρισμένα ερευνητικά κέντρα της χώρας (1. ΕΛΚΕ Επιτροπής Ερευνών ΑΠΘ, Οδοντιατρική Σχολή Α.Π.Θ., 2-. ΙΚΥ – SIEMENS, Ιατρική Σχολή Α.Π.Θ., 3. Ακαδημαϊκός Υπότροφος Ιατρική Σχολή Α.Π.Θ.) και της αλλοδαπής (4. Skin Cancer Unit, Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova IRCCS Reggio Emilia). Ουσιαστικά έχω αυτοδύναμο εκπαιδευτικό έργο τουλάχιστον από το 2014 αφού ως διδάσκων πρακτικά ασκώ και το συντονισμό του Επιλεγόμενο Προπτυχιακού μαθήματος «Τεκμηριωμένη Συνταγογράφηση και Θεραπευτική στην Οδοντιατρική». Το μάθημα παρακολούθησαν 37 φοιτητές το έτος 2014-2015 (1η χρονιά) ενώ φέτος (2020-2021, 8η χρονιά) έχουν δηλώσει συμμετοχή 77 φοιτητές.

Ερευνητικό Έργο:
Έχω συμμετάσχει σε 11 διεθνείς κλινικές πολυκεντρικές µελέτες. Από τις δημοσιευμένες εργασίες μου, οι 47 αφορούν σε κλινικές μελέτες μεγάλης έκτασης (τάξης μεγέθους άνω των 100-3500 ασθενών). Συμμετέχω ως συγγραφέας σε 8 δημοσιεύσεις που είτε περιγράφουν νέα κριτήρια ορθής κατάταξης νόσου (73 για την νόσο Αδαμαντιάδη – Behchet και 111 για την διαπυητική ιδρωταδενίτιδα) είτε αποτελούν κατευθυντήριες κλινικές οδηγίες (115 για τους σπίλους Spitz, 120 για το άτυπο ινοξάνθωμα, 126 για τη διαπυητική ιδρωταδενίτιδα, 143 για το μελάνωμα, 149 για τις μη-νεοπλασματικές δερματοπάθειες και 153 για τα Β και Τ λεμφώματα) υπό την ανάθεση διεθνών επιστημονικών εταιριών.

Επίσης έχω ασχοληθεί με συστηματικές ανασκοπήσεις, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και ανασκοπήσεων για τη βάση δεδομένων COCHRANE. Συμμετέχω στην Cochrane Collaboration από το 2008, αρχικά ως hand searcher (υπεύθυνος για το Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) και στη συνέχεια ως author και αργότερα ως principal author and responsible for review. H μετα-ανάλυση της ομάδας μου αναφορικά με την ωφέλεια της βιοψίας του φρουρού λεμφαδένα σε ασθενείς με μελάνωμα) επιλέχθηκε το 2015 ως case study, από το Cochrane Methods Group (για την ορθή ανάλυση και τεκμηρίωση της ανασκόπησης και την κατάδειξη και καταγραφή των συστηματικών σφαλμάτων της συμπεριλαμβανόμενης MSLT-I πολυκεντρικής μελέτης).

Αναφορικά με το ερευνητικό έργο, έχω με επιτυχία υποβάλλει αυτοδύναμα ερευνητικές προτάσεις οι οποίες επιλέχθηκαν για την ποιότητα τους και χρηματοδοτήθηκαν ως μεταδιδακτορικές υποτροφίες (Επιτροπή Ερευνών Α.Π.Θ, Ι.Κ.Υ. – Siemens). Έχω υποβάλλει αυτοδύναμα ως κύριος ερευνητής προτάσεις στο ΕΛΙΔΕΚ και στο Ίδρυμα Λάτση ενώ ως συμμετέχων ερευνητής έχω συμμετάσχει στα προγράμματα FP7 και ΕΡΕΥΝΩ – ΚΑΙΝΟΤΟΜΩ.

Επιπρόσθετα, έχω αυτοδύναμο αναγνωρισμένο έργο στη στοματογναθοπροσωπική περιοχή όπως προκύπτει από τις δημοσιεύσεις μου σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά από τις οποίες ένας σημαντικός αριθμός είναι αυτοδύναμες (πρώτος συγγραφέας σε 53 από τις παραπάνω δημοσιεύσεις και υπεύθυνος αλληλογραφίας σε 65). Το ερευνητικό έργο των μελών Δ.Ε.Π. των ακαδημαϊκών σχολών διεθνώς αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς και κριτήριο διεθνούς αναγνώρισης και κύρους του έργου του μιας κλινικής, αλλά και μιας Ιατρικής Σχολής. Στην κατεύθυνση αυτή, και μέχρι το Ιανουάριο του 2021 έχω αποδώσει 143 άρθρα που εμφανίζονται στο Pubmed, με συνολικό δείκτη εμβέλειας (impact factor, Journal Citation Reports) 1263,21 (μ.ο. 8,77, εύρος 0,467 – 91,245), 3679 αναφορές (citations) στο Scopus και h-index = 30. Στις δημοσιεύσεις μου περιλαμβάνονται 5 δημοσιεύσεις σε ελληνικά περιοδικά, 7 κεφάλαια σε βιβλία (όλα διεθνή, στο 1 ταυτόχρονα και εκδότης), μια πλήρης δημοσίευση σε τόμο συνεδρίου (διεθνούς), 27 περιλήψεις σε διεθνή περιοδικά (συνολικός δείκτης εμβέλειας του 2016 58,612 και μέσος όρος 2,255), και 49 περιλήψεις σε πρακτικά συνεδρίων και ελληνικά περιοδικά (5 διεθνή, 44 ελληνικά).

Όντας συγχρόνως μεταπτυχιακός φοιτητής στο Π.Μ.Σ. «Ιατρική Ερευνητική Μεθοδολογία» της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. (1ος κύκλος μεταπτυχιακών σπουδών), σκέφτηκα και υλοποίησα 2 μελέτες παρατήρησης, 1 ασθενών μαρτύρων και στη συνέχεια 1 μελέτη κοόρτης ώστε να τεκμηριωθεί η συσχέτιση της ανεπιθύμητης ενέργειας της οστεονέκρωσης των γνάθων από τα διφωσφονικά φάρμακα με τις οδοντικές εξαγωγές. Οι μελέτες αυτές δημοσιεύθηκαν στο Journal of Clinical Oncology (IF=44,544) και καθώς ήταν οι πρώτες που τεκμηρίωσαν τις οδοντικές εξαγωγές ως παράγοντα κινδύνου για την ανάπτυξη της οστεονέκρωσης των γνάθων συμπεριλαμβάνονται μέχρι σήμερα στις κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες της ASCO, για την αντιμετώπιση των οστικών μεταστάσεων και της σχετιζόμενης με την κακοήθεια υπερασβεστιαιμίας ενώ έχουν λάβει συνολικά 717 αναφορές (208+509).

Η διδακτορική μου διατριβή (2ος κύκλος μεταπτυχιακών σπουδών) είχε ως θέμα εκβάσεις αναφερόμενες από ασθενείς (patient reported outcomes) σε ασθενείς που εμφάνισαν την ανεπιθύμητη ενέργεια των διφωσφονικών, οστεονέκρωση των γνάθων. Η κύρια δημοσίευση του ειδικού μέρους της Δ.Δ. μου, αφορά στην καταγραφή της νοσηρότητας της ανωτέρω ανεπιθύμητης ενέργειας των διφωσφονικών φαρμάκων. Η μέταδιδακτορική υποτροφία (Μ.Δ.) που έλαβα στο πλαίσιο της προκύρηξης μεταδιδακτορικών υποτροφιών ΙΚΥ – Siemens, στα πλαίσια του εξωδικαστικού συμβιβασμού του Ελληνικού Δημοσίου με τη Siemens, εκπονήθηκε στο εργαστήριο Φαρμακολογίας – Κλινικής Φαρμακολογίας της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. και αφορά σε μελέτη ανοσοφαινότυπου ασθενών υπό αγωγή με διφωσφονικά προκειμένου να μελετηθεί η παθοφυσιολογία εμφάνισης ανεπιθύμητων ενεργειών σχετικών με τη λειτουργία των μακροφάγων. Η Μ.Δ. περατώθηκε επιτυχώς και τα αποτελέσματα έχουν δημοσιευτεί.

Το 2009, καταθέσαμε σε συνεργασία με τον καθηγητή κο. Δημήτριο Κούβελα, το Ε.Φ.Μ. του μαθήματος επιλογής Θ’ Εξαμήνου της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής «Τεκμηριωμένη Συνταγογράφηση και Θεραπευτική στην Οδοντιατρική», στα πρότυπα του αντίστοιχου μαθήματος επιλογής της Ιατρικής Σχολής. Το ΕΦΜ του μαθήματος εγκρίθηκε και ενσωματώθηκε στο νέο πρόγραμμα σπουδών (για εγγραφή από ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2009-2010). Η διδασκαλία του μαθήματος άρχισε την ακαδημαϊκή χρονιά 2014-2015, στο ‘Ε έτος των φοιτητών της Οδοντιατρικής, με το νέο πρόγραμμα σπουδών. Από τότε μέχρι και σήμερα ασκώ τα καθήκοντα του Συντονιστή του μαθήματος, σε συνεργασία με τον Υπεύθυνο μαθήματος καθηγητή κο. Κούβελα.

Από το 2008 μέχρι και σήμερα, έχω ασχοληθεί με σειρά θεμάτων φαρμακολογίας, ιδίως αναφορικά με ανεπιθύμητες ενέργειες φαρμακευτικών σκευασμάτων. Έχω δημοσιεύσει επιστολές όπου γίνεται έγκυρος σχολιασμός τέτοιων ενεργειών και της μεθοδολογικής προσέγγισης τους στα μεγαλύτερα ιατρικά περιοδικά (New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology). Οι παραπάνω δημοσιευμένες επιστολές, στο σύνολο τους, αφορούν σε ανεπιθύμητες ενέργειες φαρμακευτικών σκευασμάτων που σε συνδυασμό με μεθοδολογικά σφάλματα των πολυκεντρικών μελετών που επισημαίνουμε, οδηγούν σε υποεκτίμηση του αριθμού ασθενών που βλάπτονται από τη χορήγηση της αγωγής. Σε τουλάχιστο δύο περιπτώσεις αυτό οδήγησε σε μεταβολές στον προθεραπευτικό έλεγχο των ασθενών και την απόφαση φαρμακοθεραπείας (denosumab για καρκίνο προστάτη και ustekinumab για ψωρίαση,). Αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως η πολυκεντρική κλινική μελέτη της AMGEN που συμμετείχα ως συνεργάτης υπό την διεύθυνση του κ. Τηλαβερίδη (συμβάσεις ΕΛΚΕ 448963, 448968, 480865), στο σύνολο της διεθνώς εκπονήθηκε ως απάντηση της AMGEN σε αίτημα του FDA που προέκυψε σε συνέχεια της δημοσίευσης της επιστολής μου.

In 1997 I obtained the degree in Optics from the Department of Optics of the School of Health Professions of the Athens Technical University, in 2002 the degree in Medicine and in 2009 the degree in Dentistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2008 I received the postgraduate diploma of specialization from the “Medical Research Methodology” of the Department of Medicine, AUTh. From 2005 to 2011 I practiced as a doctor at the General Hospital. Kavala, Anticancer Hospital Theagenio, General Hospital G Papanikolaou and General Hospital AHEPA in order to receive the medical and dental specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. I am also specialized in Emergency Pre-Hospital Medicine from the Training Center of EKAB (2011).

I served his military service at the Unorthodox War Training Center (KEAP) of the Special Forces of the Greek Army as a reserve hoplite doctor without specialization (26/5/2003 – 26/5/2004). During the years 2012-2013 I fulfilled the country doctor service provided by law at the General Hospital of Goumenissa.

I prepared a doctoral dissertation (2008-2013) at the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on “Evaluation of the quality of life of patients with head and neck cancer and patients with bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw” (Excellent with Distinction).

In 2014 I received after an external committee evaluation from the Research Committee of AUTh the Postdoctoral Fellowship of Excellence during which I prepared Postdoctoral Research on “Study of the immediate and distant morbidity of maxillofacial trauma in the population of Northern Greece” in the the Clinic of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of the School of Dentistry. Then, in the years 2015-2016, following an external committee evaluation , I received from the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) in the context of the out-of-court settlement of the Greek State with Siemens AG, a Postdoctoral Fellowship of Excellence during which I prepared Postdoctoral Research on: “Immune cells in patients treated with bisphosphonates “at the 2nd Laboratory of Pharmacology – Clinical Pharmacology of the Medical School of AUTh. From 2013 to 2018 I was a clinical research fellow at the Italian University Hospital Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova of Reggio Emiglia where I have participated in protocols of clinical studies and diagnostic accuracy studies and writing systematic reviews and meta-analyzes related to facial skin cancer and head & neck skin diseases in general. I collaborated as a Research Associate (2013-present): at the ENT Clinic and the 2nd Laboratory of Pharmacology (Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology) of the Department of Medicine, as well as at the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During the years 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 I was an academic fellow in the 2nd Laboratory of Pharmacology (Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology) of the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From September 2020 until today I serve as Consultant of the Greek NHS at the General Hospital of Thessaloniki G. Papanikolaou.

Clinical experience:
Regarding my clinical work, I have treated a very large number of patients in the field of Oral Surgery, as it appears from the log books of my specialization at GH “G. Papanikolaou ”and ACH “ Theageneio ”(2,217 operations), the private certificates for the years 2017-2020 that I had submitted to the NHS evaluation council of the 3rd State Health Authority (> 500 cases,> 300 CBCT orders) and the relevant list of surgeries as Consultant at the GH “G. Papanikolaou”(246 cases).

It is worth noting my special training and involvement in dealing with emergencies and first aid. As far as I know, I am the only dentist in Greece who has successfully completed the State postgraduate program of EKAB for Emergency Pre-Hospital Medicine. The program is provided only to medical graduates, includes internships in Anesthesiology Department, Intensive Care Unit, Hospital ICU, Coronary Unit, Delivery Room, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Mobile Emergency Unit and Emergency Department. Meanwhile I also received the ALS in 2010. My interest in emergency medicine is older as during my military service as a Hoplite – Doctor I was a first aid instructor at the Unorthodox War Training Center (K.E.AP.) of the Special Forces of the Greek Army during the years 2003-2004. In addition, I am a teacher of the course First Aid at the Department of Nursing of the General Hospital “G. Papanikolaou “(APA: ΨΖ4Θ46906Β-76Ζ).

Administrative experience:
Since 2021 I am the Editor in Chief of the ” Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery”, the official four-monthly scientific journal of the Hellenic Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, which has National Recognition by the Ministry of Health (Government Gazette 2412/2009 / Β / 4-12. I am an Associate Editor in the PubMed and JCR indexed journals: Hippokratia (since 2012) and Dermatology Practical and Conceptual (since 2016). In both journals I also serve as Section Editor for methodology and statistics. I am also a member of the editorial board of 6 other international journals. I have handled over 300 peer reviews in over 75 international journals.

I am Special Secretary (responsible for continuing education and scientific documentation) and a member of the Board of the Hellenic Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from February 2021.
I served/serve as Institutional Review Board Member in the Doctoral Theses Review Board, Faculty of Medicine Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2007-2013), in the Joint Faculty of Medicine – Faculty of Veterinary Science, Experimental Animal Studies Review Board of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2018 – present) and in the Scientific Committee of the General Hospital of Thessaloniki, G. Papanicolaou (2022-present).

Teaching experience:
At the Undergraduate level, I am a lecturer in the undergraduate program of the Medical School of AUTh in the core courses “Pharmacology I”, “Pharmacology II” and “ENT” during the years 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021. I am a teacher and course coordinator in the undergraduate program of the School of Dentistry of AUTh in the elective course “Evidence Based Prescription and Therapy in Dentistry” during the years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 (with independent teaching work). I was a teacher in the undergraduate program of the School of Dentistry of AUTh in the core courses of the 4th and 5th year “Oral Maxillofacial Surgery I” and “Oral Maxillofacial Surgery II” during the years 2013-2014, 2014-2015.
At the Postgraduate level I am a teacher in the postgraduate study program “Medical Research Methodology” of the Medical School of AUTh in the core course of the second spring semester of the academic years 2009-10, 2010-11, 2015-16, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 “CONDUCT OF CLINICAL TESTS”, in the elective course of the third winter semester of academic years 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 , 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 “DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY”, in the elective course of the third winter semester of academic years 2013-14, 2014- 15, 2015-16, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 “STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF ONCOLOGICAL DATA” and in the elective course of the third winter semester of academic years 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 “EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE IN CANCER PREVENTION AND TREATMENT. THE EXAMPLE OF HEAD AND CERVICAL CANCER: UPDATE OF INTERVENTIONS BASED ON GENETIC, EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL DATA “. I was also a lecturer at the “PHILIPPIAN RESEARCH LABORATORY” of the Hellenic Society of General Medicine in the years 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 as well as in the training program of the specialized doctors of the Hellenic Society of General Medicine “Biostatistics Seminar” 2013. I was also a lecturer at the University of Modena – Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) in medical research methodology seminars in 2016 and 2017. In addition, I was a lecturer in the Postgraduate Program “Clinical and Industrial Pharmacology” in the course “EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE”.

I have worked for more than four years in recognized research centers of the country (1. ELKE AUTh Research Committee, AUTh School of Dentistry, 2-. IKY – SIEMENS, AUTh Medical School, 3. Academic Scholar Medical School of AUTh and abroad 4. Skin Cancer Unit, Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova IRCCS Reggio Emilia. Essentially, I have had an independent educational project at least since 2014, since as a teacher I also practice the coordination of the Elective Undergraduate course “Evidence Based Prescription and Therapy in Dentistry”. The course was attended by 37 students in the year 2014-2015 (1st year) while this year (2020-2021, 8th year) 77 students have registered.

Research projects:
I have participated in 11 international clinical multicenter Studies. Of my published work, 47 papers relate to large-scale clinical trials (over 100-3500 patients). I am a co-author of 8 publications that either describe new criteria for correct disease classification (73 for Adamantiadi-Behchet disease and 111 for hidradenitis suppurativa) or are clinical guidelines (115 for Spitz nevi, 120 for atypical Spitz Tumors, 126 for hidradenitis suppurativa, 143 for melanoma, 149 for non-neoplastic skin diseases and 153 for B and T lymphomas) under the auspices of international scientific societies.

I have also dealt with systematic reviews, including reviews for the COCHRANE database. I have been participating in the Cochrane Collaboration since 2008, initially as a hand searcher (responsible for the Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) and then as an author and later as a principal author and responsible for review. The meta-analysis of my team regarding the benefit of sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with melanoma was selected in 2015 as a case study by the Cochrane Methods Group (for the correct analysis and documentation of the review and demonstration and recording the systematic errors of the MSLT-I multicenter study included).

Regarding the research project, I have successfully submitted independent research proposals which were selected for their quality and funded as postdoctoral fellowships (AUTh Research Committee, IKY – Siemens). I have independently submitted proposals as a lead researcher to ELIDEK and the Latsis Foundation while as a participating researcher I have participated in the programs FP7 and RESEARCH – INNOVATE. In addition, I have a self-recognized work in the maxillofacial area as evidenced by my publications in scientific journals of which a significant number are autonomous (first author in 53 of the above publications and correspondent in 65). The research work of the academic faculty members internationally is a point of reference and criterion of international recognition and prestige of the work of a clinic, but also of a Medical School. In this direction, and until January 2021 I have submitted 143 articles that appear in Pubmed, with a total impact factor (Journal Citation Reports) 1263.21 (average 8.77, range 0.467 – 91.245), 3679 citations in Scopus and h-index = 30. My publications include 5 publications in Greek magazines, 7 chapters in books (all international, at 1 publisher at the same time), a complete publication in a conference volume (international), 27 abstracts in international journals (total index of 2016 58,612 and average 2,255), and 49 abstracts in conference proceedings and Greek journals (5 international, 44 Greek).

Being at the same time a postgraduate student at PostGraduate Program “Medical Research Methodology” of the Medical School of AUTh. (1st cycle of postgraduate studies), I conceived and conducted 2 observational studies, 1 patient control and then 1 cohort study to document the association of the adverse effect of osteonecrosis of the jaws from bisphosphonates with dental extracts. These studies were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (IF = 44,544) and these were the first studies to document dental extractions as a risk factor for developing osteonecrosis of the jaws, which studies are still included in the ASCO (American Society for Clinical Oncology) guidelines for the treatment of bone metastases and associated malignancy which studies had received a total of 717 citations (208 + 509) until 2021.

My doctoral dissertation (2nd cycle of postgraduate studies) was about patient reported outcomes in patients who experienced the adverse effect of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaws. The main publication of the special part of my PhD concerns the recording of the morbidity of the above adverse effect of bisphosphonates. The postdoctoral fellowship that I received in the context of the announcement of postdoctoral scholarships IKY – Siemens, in the context of the out-of-court settlement of the Greek State with Siemens, was prepared in the laboratory of Pharmacology – Clinical Pharmacology of the Medical School of AUTh and refers to an immunophenotypic study of patients treated with bisphosphonates in order to study the pathophysiology of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaws related to macrophage function. The PostDoc dissertation has been successfully completed and the results have been published.

In 2009, we submitted in collaboration with Professor Mr. Dimitrios Kouvelas, the Proposal for the elective course of the 9th Semester of the School of Dentistry “Evidence Based Prescription and Therapy in Dentistry”, similar to the standards of the respective elective course of the Medical School. The proposal for the course was approved and integrated in the new program (for enrollment from the academic year 2009-2010). The teaching of the course started in the academic year 2014-2015, in the fifth year of the students of Dentistry, with the new study program. From then until today I exercise the duties of the Course Coordinator, in collaboration with the Course Manager, Prof. Kouvelas.

From 2008 until today, I have dealt with a number of pharmacology issues, especially regarding side effects of medications. I have published letters commenting on such actions and their methodological approach in major medical journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology). The above published letters, in their entirety, refer to side effects of pharmaceutical preparations which, in combination with methodological errors of the multicenter studies that we point out, lead to an underestimation of the number of patients who are affected by the administration of the treatment. In at least two cases, this has led to changes in patients’ pre-treatment screening and medication decision. It is worth noting that the multicenter clinical study of AMGEN that I participated as a collaborator under the direction of Prof. Tilaveridis (ELKE contracts 448963, 448968, 480865), in its entirety was conducted internationally by AMGEN in response to the request of the FDA following the publication of (letter number 58) my letter.

I honestly believe that with the guarantees provided by my CV, I will significantly help in the further clinical, educational and research development, impact and recognition of both the Laboratory of Dentoalveolar Surgery within the Dental Department of the School of Health Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to a greater extent.
